The Dome

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Project Manager

This roofing project involved the complete re-roofing of a dual geodesic dome residence—a rare and architecturally complex structure that required a high degree of skill, planning, and attention to detail. The installation took one full week to complete due to the technical challenges presented by the curved surfaces, non-linear geometry, and steep angles.

All shingles were hand-nailed in accordance with the manufacturer’s warranty requirements. This method was critical for precise fastener placement and ensured long-term performance and compliance. Hand-nailing on a structure of this shape and scale demanded patience, consistency, and an expert touch from our crew throughout the duration of the job.

To maintain a safe work environment on such a complex roof, we deployed comprehensive fall protection systems—including personal harnesses, secure anchor points, and rope grabs. A boom lift was used to safely access hard-to-reach areas, transport materials, and avoid damage to the structure or landscaping.

Special considerations were made for the non-standard architectural elements, such as custom skylight flashings , structural transitions, and dome intersections. Flashing and waterproofing materials had to be precisely measured and adapted on-site, requiring constant communication and real-time problem-solving. There was also a custom intake installed for proper ventilation

In total, the project reflects the significant investment of labor, equipment, and craftsmanship required to successfully restore a specialty roof system like this—meeting both warranty and code standards while preserving the home’s unique architectural integrity.
